Assistant Director for Organizational Leadership

Appalachian State University invites applications for the position of Assistant Director for Organizational Leadership.  Appalachian is a member institution of The University of North Carolina System and has an enrollment of over 15,000 students situated in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Boone, North Carolina.

The Assistant Director will report to the Director of the Lee H. McCaskey Center for Student Involvement and Leadership.  The Assistant Director has primary responsibility for the development of effective student organizations and for leadership development within the fraternity and sorority system.  Further, the Assistant Director is responsible for a variety of leadership development programs and is one of the primary leadership educators on the staff of the Center.  The position provides direct advisement and support for recognized fraternities and sororities who are members of the Interfraternity Council and National Pan-Hellenic Council, as well as the councils themselves and general oversight of all aspects of Greek Life including the Panhellenic Council and its members. 

The Assistant Director supervises the Coordinator for Sorority Life and Living which is a shared position with the Department of Housing and Residence Life.  In addition, this position supervises a graduate assistant in the department.  This position has responsibility for leadership development within the Greek and the larger Appalachian community as well as the opportunity to teach both credit and non-credit leadership courses.

The Assistant Director must have a minimum of a master’s degree in College Student Development, Counseling, Higher Education or an appropriate related field with 2 years post graduate experience working in Greek Life, leadership development, student services or general administration. Preferred qualifications consist of 3-5 years of professional experience in higher education or a related field. The position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to interact with a diverse population of students, and the ability to work in a team atmosphere.
